Following the viral success of tap dance videos done to the songs "Cups" and "Happy", choreographer, director, and dancer Christopher Rice (The Book of Mormon) has assembled Broadway performers for another tap video which was released this morning. Check it out below!
"#TappyTroops" was filmed aboard the WWII aircraft carrier and National Historic Landmark, the Intrepid, which was converted to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in its permanent New York City location. In honor of the history of the Intrepid, the cast is dressed as WWII Pilots and 1940s beauties, but contrasts the history with a never-before-heard music remix by NY favorite, DJ Chelli.
"We created this video to thank, honor, and entertain the millions of veterans who have given so much to protect our country," said Rice. "There are plenty of things out there than can bring you down. As performers, it is our job and our passion to put our talents into something that lifts people up."
The previous tap dance videos combined have been viewed over 2.5 million times and have created a renewed enthusiasm for the classic art of tap dance.
In the video Rice is joined by fellow Broadway performers Aaron Albano (Here Lies Love, Newsies, A Chorus Line, others), Clay Thomson (Matilda, Newsies, West Side Story tour, others), Natasha Scearse (White Christmas tour), Kelly Sheehan (42nd Street, White Christmas), and Sasha Hutchings (Hamilton Mixtape, Rocky, Motown, others).
