As Broadway's Hamilton continues to work out problems which resulted from a massive response to the musical's new online lottery system, music director Alex Lacamoire hosted a special #Ham4Ham show in front of the Richard Rodgers Theatre this evening.
In honor of the fifth anniversary of the closing of IN THE HEIGHTS on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, Christopher Jackson and Mandy Gonzalez, the original Benny and Nina, sang "When You're Home." Check it out below!
Last year, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the genius behind the new musical HAMILTON, started what has become one of the theatre community's most beloved weekly traditions on Broadway. He invited fellow cast members to join him as he greeted fans outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre before the drawing of the $10 lottery tickets, and they would sing something fun or participate in a Q&A with an unexpected twist. Before long, it grew into a regularly-scheduled pre-lottery performance known as "#Ham4Ham," playing on the fact that Hamilton's face is on the $10 bill.
The new musical HAMILTON has book, music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also plays the title role. The musical is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. HAMILTON is inspired by Ron Chernow's biography "Alexander Hamilton."
When it's back up and running, the digital lottery, powered by Broadway Direct, will be at www.hamiltonbroadway.com/lottery.
