For today's #Ham4Ham performance, Lin-Manuel Miranda welcomed Audra McDonald to join him in singing "Say No to This" from HAMILTON. The twist? McDonald channeled Billie Holiday for the performance. Check it out below!
Of the video, Miranda writes, "6-Time Tony Award Winner and living legend Audra McDonald joins us to perform Say No To This--AS Billie Holiday. That's Alex Lacamoire on keys and Richard Hammond on bass. Don't miss Audra and the MOST INSANELY-STACKED-WITH-TALENT-CAST-EVER in Shuffle Along, coming to Broadway in March. http://shufflealongbroadway.com. Good luck with the lotto!"
Last year, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the genius behind the new musical Hamilton, started what has become one of the theatre community's most beloved weekly traditions on Broadway. He invited fellow cast members to join him as he greeted fans outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre before the drawing of the $10 lottery tickets, and they would sing something fun or participate in a Q&A with an unexpected twist. Before long, it grew into a regularly-scheduled pre-lottery performance known as "#Ham4Ham," playing on the fact that Hamilton's face is on the $10 bill.
BroadwayWorld previously reported that the outdoor performance is on a hiatus until March as managers at the Richard Rodgers work out safety measures to accommodate the sizable crowds in attendance, but Lin-Manuel Miranda has promised that he will be posting performances online in the meantime.
