Before heading to Broadway this fall, School of Rock - THE MUSICAL rocked the Gramercy Theatre (127 E 23rd Street) for a brief residency, June 3rd through June 6th, starring Alex Brightman as 'Dewey Finn'. Click below to watch the full SCHOOL OF ROCK band nail their performance -- all live and worthy of straight A's! Plus go behind the scenes at the workshop here!
School of Rock begins previews at the Winter Garden Theatre on November 9, with an opening night slated for December 6, 2015. Based on the Paramount movie written by Mike White, School of Rock has a book by Julian Fellowes, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and new music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. School of Rock will be directed by Laurence Connor (currently represented on Broadway by LES MISERABLES). Brightman will star as 'Dewey Finn', with Sierra Boggess in the role of principal 'Rosalie Mullins'.
The Gramercy event featured choreography by Joann M. Hunter, scenic and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Jen Schriever (Tony winner Natasha Katz will design for Broadway), sound design by Mick Potter, and conductor/music supervisor Ethan Popp.
The band included Darren Ledbetter (associate music supervisor/keyboards), Brandon Ethridge (associate music supervisor/keyboards), Gary Seligson (drums), Pete Donovan (bass), Jeffrey Lee Campbell (guitar), Brian Koonin (guitar), and Tim Quick (guitar), as well as Michael Keller and Michael Aarons (music coordinators) and Randy Cohen (keyboard programmer).
SCHOOL OF ROCK follows struggling rock singer and guitarist, Dewey Finn (Brightman), who is kicked out of his band and subsequently disguises himself as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. After witnessing the musical talent in his students, Dewey forms a band of fourth-graders to attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands and pay off his rent.
