The cast of THE WALTONS appeared together on this morning's TODAY show on NBC for the first time in 30 years.  The actors are coming together to mark the 40th Anniversary of 'The Homecoming', which is being screnned tonight in Jersey City, NJ. On this morning's show, they shared memories of filming the long running series.

The film 'The Homecoming' as well as the  'The Waltons' TV show were both based on Earl Hamner Jr.'s memoir entitled 'Spencer's Mountain,'  which told what is was like to grow up in a rural community during the Great Depression.

The made for TV movie, 'The Homecoming' took place on Christmas Eve 1933 and told the story of the family's hope that their father would be able to return to them in time for Christmas. It was the first time that TV viewers across America met the Walton family.  The series which followed ran on CBS from 1971 to 1982.
