Jason Gotay, Robin Skye and more will star in "210 Amlent Avenue," scheduled for a developmental reading at the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival.
"210 Amlent Avenue" is a full-length musical that explores family, desire, and loss through dialogue and music that straddle the traditional and the contemporary. The story follows retired Broadway actress Mrs. Jordan as she and friends pay their respects to her recently-deceased husband. Their lives change when Judah, a young friend of the family, shows up seeking answers about his own dead parents.
This new musical features music and lyrics by Karl Hinze, currently a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and doctoral student in music composition at Stony Brook University, with book by Becky Goldberg, a faculty member at SBU and Suffolk Community College in Selden, N.Y. In Manhattan, the musical has been previously workshopped at The Cry Havoc Company.
Samantha Saltzman directs. Saltzman's work has been seen at Barrington Stage and the NYMF Hub concert series. Associate and assistant directing credits include "Sarah Brightman's Dreamchaser World Tour"; "Musical Celebration of Broadway Honoring Neil Patrick Harris;" "Pump up the Volume" at Joe's Pub; and "Hair" at the Hanger Theatre. She is a Drama League directing fellow.
Jason Gotay stars as Judah, a young friend of the Jordan family. Gotay starred as Peter Parker and Spiderman in "Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark." Other credits include the original Broadway production and national tour of "Bring It On: The Musical," as well as off-Broadway musical "The Anthem."
Robin Skye plays Ms. Jordan, a retired Broadway actress and family matriarch. Broadway credits include "Parade" and "Cyrano - The Musical." Other credits include the national tour of Les Miserables and Off-Broadway. Regional venues include the Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, Goodspeed Musicals and Hartford Stage.
Lisa Birnbaum (Off-Broadway: "Abraham Lincoln's Big Gay Dance Party;" Regional: Long Wharf Theatre, Huntington Theatre Company, Yale Repertory), Jasmine LaRocca, Jillian Louis (Off-Broadway: "Soul Doctor;" "Getting My Act Together..."; Regional: Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Flordia Studio Theatre, Northern Stage, Walnut Street Theatre), Justin Stephon Trice (Regional: John W. Engeman Theatre) and Keith Varney (National Tour: "Titantic") complete the company.
