It's been nearly seven months since SPIDER-MAN, TURN OFF THE DARK began playing to audiences at the Foxwoods Theatre, and several years since the musical made the first major steps in its journey toward Broadway.
Today, speaking to The New York Times, director Philip William McKinley confirmed that the show is frozen and no significant further changes will be made before the scheduled June 14th opening. Despite many critics reviewing the original version (dubbed 1.0), none were invited - and, in fact, the production spoke out against critics reviewing the unfinished production.
This week, McKinley says, critics are invited to attend tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday's performances for review. The much-delayed opening is set to take place after numerous delays, injuries, and other headline worthy events surrounding the production.
SPIDER-MAN also holds the unique distinction of collecting the most previews prior to a Broadway opening: 177 at tonight's curtain call. It's no wonder, then, that McKinley describes the cast and crew as "very excited and relieved."

A press release for the new version proclaims that the new show "takes the best aspects of the original, adds great new music by Bono and The Edge, tells the story from a different angle, and will offer an even more thrilling audience experience."
