The national tour of the Tony Award-winning Best MusicAl Monty Python's Spamalot will end after its run at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, CA. The production will run from October 6 - October 18. John O'Hurley ("Seinfeld," "Dancing with the Stars") will reprise his role of King Arthur for the musical's final performances.
Spamalot, directed by Mike Nichols, ran for almost four years on Broadway, two years in London's West End, and has also been produced in Las Vegas and Melbourne, Australia. The successful United States tour performed at the Ahmanson Theatre in LA from July 7 to September 6 for nine weeks, starring John O'Hurley and this show's Rick Holmes, and there are currently hit productions in Barcelona, Spain and Cologne, Germany.
Spamalot features a book and lyrics by Eric Idle, music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, choreography by Casey Nicholaw and is based on the screenplay of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" by Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin.
The musical retells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their journey to find the Holy Grail from a slightly unconventional point of view.
Spamalot won the 2005 Tony Awards for Best Musical, direction (Mike Nichols) and performance (Sara Ramirez). Spamalot ended its run at Broadway's Shubert Theatre on Jan. 11, 2009.
