Although millions of fans know his songs by heart, few know much about Stephen Sondheim himself. Until now. SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is an intimate portrait of the famed composer in his own words... and music. Through the use of exclusive interview footage, audiences get an inside look at Sondheim's personal life and artistic process. A cast of Broadway's best, perform brand-new arrangements of over two dozen Sondheim tunes, ranging from the beloved to the obscure. The SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM creative team includes David Loud (Music Direction & Arrangements), Michael Starobin (Orchestrations) and Dan Knechtges (Musical Staging).

SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM has been nominated for two Tony Awards including Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Barbara Cook) and Best Sound Design of a Musical (Dan Moses Schreier). The show also received a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Revue, four Outer Critics Circle Nominations for Outstanding New Broadway Musical, Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Barbara Cook), Outstanding Set Design (Beowulf Boritt) and Outstanding Lighting Design (Ken Billington), one Drama League Award for Distinguished Production of a Musical and two Drama League nominations for Distinguished Performance (Barbara Cook & Vanessa Williams).

Special funding for this recording has been provided by The Shen Family Foundation, HRH Foundation, The Benjamin M. Rosen Family Foundation, Peter and Leni May, Daryl Roth Productions, Barry Diller, Perry and Marty Granoff Foundation and R. Martin Chavez.

PS Classics has preserved many Sondheim productions including A Little Night Music, Company, Frogs, Road Show and the Roundabout productions of Assassins, Pacific Overtures and Sunday in the Park with George.

Roundabout has a long relationship with Stephen Sondheim having produced five Tony Award® nominated Sondheim revivals including Company (1995), Follies (2001), Tony Award® winning Assassins (2004), Pacific Overtures (2004) and Sunday in the Park with George (2008). This production of Sondheim on Sondheim marks the fourth Sondheim musical produced by Roundabout Theatre Company at Studio 54, where Assassins, Pacific Overtures and Sunday in the Park with George all played. In 2005, Roundabout honored Sondheim with the Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre for the indelible impact his life's work has made on the Theatre World. In 2009 Roundabout presented a one-night only gala concert reading of A Little Night Music at Studio 54 starring Natasha Richardson, Victor Garber and Vanessa Redgrave. Roundabout celebrated Sondheim's 80th birthday and contribution to the theatre by renaming the Broadway theatre located on 43rd Street and Broadway, the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Founded in 2000 by Tommy Krasker & Philip Chaffin, and a four-time Grammy nominee (for its cast albums of Assassins, Nine: The Musical, Grey Gardens and Company), PS Classics celebrates the heritage of Broadway and American popular song through its award-winning cast recordings; solo albums by such luminaries as Maureen McGovern, Victoria Clark, Jessica Molaskey and Christine Andreas; and recordings drawn from rare sound archives, including "Sondheim Sings."
