The Trustees of The Laurents / Hatcher Foundation, Inc. are pleased to announce that Something Clean by Selina Fillinger is recipient of the Laurents / Hatcher Foundation Award. Ms. Fillinger will receive $50,000 for the work, and Roundabout Theater Company, who will produce the premiere this spring, will receive $100,000 towards the production.

David Saint, President of the Laurents / Hatcher Foundation said, "The Laurents / Hatcher Board unanimously chose Something Clean as the winner this year. It is a powerful story from today's world with beautifully drawn complex characters."

According to press notes, Something Clean " slips into the jagged cracks of a sex crime's aftermath-the guilt, the grief, and the ways we grapple with the unthinkable"

In a statement, Roundabout Theatre Company Artistic Director/CEO Todd Haimes said,

"I couldn't be happier that Something Clean has been selected as the recipient of the 2019 Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Award. This is actually the second play in Roundabout's Underground program to be granted this distinguished honor - the first being Jiréh Breon Holder's Too Heavy for Your Pocket in 2017 - and I am so proud to once again produce a work so momentously recognized by the Foundation. This is a remarkable achievement for Selina, who has woven a rich and captivating story of repentance, responsibility, and redemption in the wake of tragedy. She has tackled a complex subject with fearless honesty and heartbreaking humanity, and I am so excited to bring her bold and unique voice to our stage later this season."

Something Clean will feature recently announced Kathryn Erbe, Daniel Jenkins and Christopher Livingston and is directed by Margot Bordelon.

The world premiere of Something Clean begins preview performances Off-Broadway on Saturday, May 4, 2019 and opens officially on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Black Box Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). This is a limited engagement through Sunday, June 30, 2019. All tickets for Roundabout Underground productions are $30.

Roundabout Theater Company previously won the Laurents / Hatcher Award in 2017 for Jiréh Breon Holder's Too Heavy for Your Pocket. Previous Laurents / Hatcher award winner American Son recently completed a run on Broadway.

Established in 2010, The LAURENTS / HATCHER FOUNDATION AWARD is an annual prize to be given for an un-produced, full-length play by an early-career American playwright. In addition to being one of the country's largest grants for new work, The Laurents / Hatcher Foundation Award is the first major award for playwriting to be named in honor of a gay couple: Tony Award winning playwright and director Arthur Laurents and his partner of 52 years, Tom Hatcher. The Laurents / Hatcher Foundation also distributes over $1 Million Dollars annually in theater development grants across the country.
