SMASH's pivotal upcoming musical sequence featuring "The Goodbye Song" by Joe Iconis will figure into this week's episode of the NBC musical series and the track is now available for download on iTunes.

SMASH stars Jeremy Jordan, Katharine McPhee and Krysta Rodriguez bring the emotional rollercoaster implicit in the song to vivid life, with this reworked HIT LIST trio version of the impressive Iconis tune striking all the right chords, musically and emotionally.

"The Goodbye Song" previously had its world premiere right here on BroadwayWorld in the form of a SOUND OFF exclusive track from the new Ghostlight release THE JOE ICONIS ROCK AND ROLL JAMBOREE. Iconis recently participated in BroadwayWorld's InDepth InterView column and had this to say about the thematic and musical ideas behind "The Goodbye Song":

"'The Goodbye Song' was written a few years ago... and I have performed it a few times... I really wrote "The Goodbye Song" about my cousin who died of cancer. He had two little kids and I wrote it as if he was talking to his sons and trying to make it all OK - to make death OK in a way. I liked writing a sort of celebratory song about death, really... It was another one of those songs that is really about two things because it was also about the ending of E.T. - when he says goodbye to Elliot. It actually uses words from the final scene of E.T. ... [On the album] I have a lot of favorites, but I think 'The Goodbye Song' has probably the most special place in my heart - I just love the arrangement so much. We recorded it with all my friends and family and everyone - they are all there in the choir at the end. So, it sounds the way that I always hoped it would sound on the album and I am really proud of it and happy that people will be hearing it soon."
