At 8 p.m. ET, NBC's SMASH scored a 0.5 in the all-important adult 18-49 demographic (compared to 0.4 on 4/27) and delivered its biggest overall audience to date among five Saturday telecasts with 2.3 million viewers (compared to 1.9 million on 4/27). In the time period, "Smash" ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in adults 18-49.
In the episode, titled 'The Phenomenon,' an unexpected event bonds both "Bombshell" and "Hit List." Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Jack Davenport, Christian Borle, Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, Krysta Rodriguez, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Andy Mientus star. Bernadette Peters and Jesse L. Martin guest star. In Season 2, the "Bombshell" team is one step closer to achieving their Broadway dream. The Boston run was the success the team was hoping for, including producer Eileen Rand (Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston, "Prizzi's Honor"), writers Tom Levitt (Tony Award winner Christian Borle, "Peter and the Starcatcher") and Julia Houston (Emmy Award winner Debra Messing, "Will & Grace"), last-minute star Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee, "American Idol") and director Derek Wills (Jack Davenport, "Pirates of the Caribbean").
