Phil Mcintyre Entertainment and Vivienne Smith Management bring SHAZIA MIRZA MULTIPLE CHOICE to the Gilded Balloon Turret at 9pm from August 4th - 30th. Tickets will cost £10.50 & £9.00 on weekdays and £12.50 and £11.00 on weekends.

Most people have a crush at 16, a kiss by at least 20, a relationship by 30 and sex somewhere in between. Not Shazia and Susan Boyle. Shazia has her first relationship at 32 and she can't tell anyone about it because not only is he not Muslim - he is an Irish atheist.

Actually, it's quite a different matter having your first relationship at 32 rather than at 16. It affects everything in your life. All of those ordinary everyday experiences like going out to post a letter, arranging a dinner date, meeting The Queen and most of the Royal Family... that kind of thing. Shazia knows a lot about the impact of dating for the first time in your thirties. Not only is she experiencing what it's like, she has also sent out a questionnaire about it to 100 people and she has analysed the results.

In Multiple Choice, Shazia reveals her conclusions and along the way she casts light on other dark recesses of her life so far. Like the time he parents made it their mission to find someone for her; first setting up excruciating meetings with unsuitable men and then, in desperation, taking her to a marriage bureau in Pakistan where she suffered the downright humiliation of being turned away. In the opinion of the matchmaker Shazia was beyond help - too old, and too dark skinned.
There is also the incident when Shazia met The Queen and Prince Philip. She became embroiled in a media manufactured controversy after His Royal Highness made a joke about the surname Patel. Shazia wants it to be known that The Duke is NOT a racist- he's just an old man. Anyway Shazia shouldn't have been there in the first place but perhaps if she'd had more experience of personal relationships it would all have been a bit easier.

Multiple Choice takes a starkly honest and self deprecating look a whole host of subjects but it always comes back to the biggest conundrum of them all, the complexities of human relationships and how to navigate in, out and around them.

Revered, applauded, loved and reviled Shazia Mirza is an award-winning comedian and columnist, as much recognised for her literary prowess as she is for her unique comedic talents. She is a Guardian Weekend Magazine columnist and has been seen on Beautiful People (BBC), Have l Got News For You (BBC), Last Comic Standing (NBC), My Brilliant Britain (Blighty) and heard on Muslim Driving School (BBC) and The Now Show (BBC)
