SHAKEN & STIRRED by Virginia Wall Gruenert, which was voted "Reader's Choice Best of 2007" in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, will have its New York City Debut for a limited engagement at the end of October at Theatre 54.
Gruenert's powerful play recounts the stories of indomitable women struggling with the toll alcohol has taken on their lives, and the lives of those they love. Carrying all the despair, devastation, and fear that accompany addiction, these ladies valiantly attempt to summon up the strength to overcome. "I wrote this play for the struggling alcoholic, the recovering alcoholic, the loved ones of alcoholics, all those in Twelve Step Programs, and all those who aren't, but ought to be. In other words, I wrote it for everyone," Gruenert has said of her play.
Directed by New York City Director/Actress Robyne Parrish (Sonnet Repertory Theatre/Musicals Tonight!/79th Street Workshop) the cast includes AEA actresses Karen Baum, Erika Cuenca, Virginia Wall Gruenert and Robyne Parrish. Parrish had this to say about directing the play, "I am thrilled to be involved with the introduction of this fine playwright to New York City audiences, as well as the message she delivers with SHAKEN & STIRRED. It has been a rewarding challenge to both direct and act in the show, and working with such an incredible group of women is a pleasure and an honor."Tickets - $5 for students; $10 for seniors; $20 General Seating.
