This holiday season, the new Broadway musical Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson has partnered with The New York Dream Center in a new citywide community outreach initiative, "An Evening of Dreams."
Through donations by several area churches, partner charitable organizations and private benefactors, The New York Dream Center is hosting local individuals and families in-need at performances of Scandalous this holiday season.
In this first week of the initiative, more than 1,600 local area residents in-need have already been reached through the program. Community outreach will continue through the month of December.
"The New York Dream Center is the local arm of The Los Angeles Dream Center, the charity organization founded by Aimee Semple McPherson at the height of her fame in the 1920s," said Scandalous librettist and lyricist Kathie Lee Gifford.
"Aimee's passion in life was to help hurting people. And with so many local families in need this holiday season, especially after the recent devastation from Hurricane Sandy, I'm delighted that Scandalous and The New York Dream Center are able to work together to bring some hope back to area residents in need with 'An Evening of Dreams.'
"It's a special opportunity for many of those individuals and families to forget their troubles for awhile and just enjoy a night of theater on Broadway, and we're grateful for the opportunity to give them that."
