More stars have climbed aboard the upcoming London revival of the French bedroom farce Boeing-Boeing, starring the previously announced Roger Allam and Frances de la Tour.
The show will be presented at the Comedy Theatre beginning February 3rd. It will open on February 15th.
Joining Olivier Award-winner Allam (Privates on Pirade, City of Angels) and Tony Award-winner de la Tour (The History Boys) will be Mark Rylance, the former artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe, and a noted classical actor whose credits include Henry V, The Tempest and Twelfth Night. Daisy Beaumont (The Day I Stood Still, "EastEnders"), Michelle Gomez ("The Green Wing") and Tamzin Outhwaite ("EastEnders") will also star.
Directed by Matthew Warchus (Lord of the Rings), Boeing-Boeing concerns Bernard, a Parisian ladies' man juggling liaisons with three air hostesses of different nationalities (played by Beaumont, Gomez and Outhwaite). The play was written in French by Marc Camoletti, and adapted into English by Beverley Cross. It was a West End hit in the early '60s.
The property received a 1965 film version starring Jerry Lewis, with Tony Curtis as Bernard. Sonia Friedman will produce it for the West End revival.
de la Tour won a Tony Award for her performance in Broadway's The History Boys; she had also starred in the play in London and can currently be seen in the film version. Other credits include Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and the TV series "Rising Damp." Allam is a two-time Olivier Award-winner for his performances in Money and Privates on Parade; he was also nominated for his work in City of Angels.
