According to TV Line, actor Ryan Phillippe will be starring in a leading role in the upcoming fifth season of the courtroom drama DAMAGES, which currently stars actress Glenn Close. The show now airs on DirecTV. Details have not yet been revealed about Phillippe's character.

The role will be Phillippe's first time starring on a regular basis in a TV show since he played the role of gay teen, Billy Douglas, on the daytime soap opera ONE LIFE TO LIVE in the early 1990's.  Last winter, the actor was being courted by Starz for a leading role in that network's, TORCHWOOD:MIRACLE DAY. Ultimately, Phillippe turned down the opportunity.

Among other guest stars that have appeared on DAMAGES are  John Goodman, Ted Danson, William Hurt, Martin Short and Lily Tomlin.

The former FX series is expected to kick off its fifth season next summer.
