Ryan Gosling to Produce, Star in and Direct Busby Berkeley Biopic?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is eyeing Ryan Gosling to play Busby Berkeley in its upcoming biopic. Gosling would produce the feature and is also being considered as director.

The movie will be based on Jeffrey Spivak's "Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeley".

Berkeley was a famous Hollywood director and musical choreographer. He choreographed numbers in the films Gold Diggers of 1933 and Warner Bros' 42nd Street, Footlight Parade, Fashions of 1934, In Caliente, Wonder Bar and more. His final project was MGM's Billy Rose's Jumbo in 1962.

In 1971, Berkeley directed a revival of No, No, Nanette on Broadway, starring Ruby Keeler. He also choreographed A Connecticut Yankee for Broadway in 1927 and Whoopee! in 1928.

Marc Platt, who has experience with musicals, having backed WICKED and the upcoming film adaptation of INTO THE WOODS, will also produce alongside Gosling.

Gosling's past film projects include Only God Forgives, Gangster Squad, The Place Beyond the Pines, The Ides of March, Crazy, Stupid, Love., Drive, Blue Valentine, Half Nelson, The Notebook, Remember the Titans and more.
