BURR RIDGE, Ill., May 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Get your running shoes ready for "Run the Ridge" 5K Run and 1K Walk! Runners of all ages will come together to help battle childhood obesity on Saturday June 4, in Burr Ridge, IL. The Run the Ridge 5K Run starts promptly at 8 a.m., and the 1K Walk begins at 8:45 a.m., at County Line Square shopping center 150 Burr Ridge Parkway, Burr Ridge.
The race, which is certified by the Chicago Area Runner's Association (CARA), raises money for ProActive Kids (PAK), a nonprofit, childhood obesity intervention program available at hospitals and other healthcare organizations in Illinois communities. Presently Illinois is ranked 14 th in the nation for childhood obesity, and 19% of all Illinois children ages 10-18 are considered obese. NBC5 Sports Anchor Mike Adamle, who is passionate about fitness for kids, will serve as the emcee for the run.
The 12 th annual run/walk will feature a dance troupe, magicians, musicians and other forms of entertainment. The 5K entry fee is $35. The fee for the 1K run/walk is $10. The entrance fee for the 5K includes a sports performance t-shirt and goody bag. All participants receive entrance into the Family Refuel Tent, which will feature healthy and nutritional beverages and snacks for race participants.
