Roundabout Featured on NPR, April 15; Stars Interviewed

The Roundabout Theatre Company's 40th Anniversary season continues with NPR's "Morning Edition" on Saturday, April 15 at 5:00-9:00AM on WNYC-FM (93.9). The program will include interviews with Todd Haimes (Artistic Director), Harry Connick Jr., Alan Cumming, Scott Elliott, Ana Gasteyer and Wallace Shawn.

The Threepenny Opera, starring Tony Award-winner Cumming  (Macheath), Tony Award-winner Jim Dale (Mr. Peachum), Grammy and Emmy Award-winner Cyndi Lauper (Jenny), Gasteyer (Mrs. Peachum) and Nellie McKay as (Polly), is the Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway production of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's classic musical, translated and adapted from the German by Shawn. The show, directed by Elliott and choreographed by Aszure Barton, began previews Friday, March 24th,and opens officially on Thursday, April 20th, 2006 on Broadway at Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street).

"The Threepenny Opera serves up a deliciously dark satire of 'respectable' society, with dashing thieves, saucy prostitutes, and lingering melodies. Based on Elizabeth Hauptmann's German translation of John Gay's eighteenth-century The Beggar's Opera, The Threepenny Opera thrusts the audience into the seedy underworld of Mack the Knife, a dapper criminal and his wry love affair with Polly Peachum," state press notes. The show plays a limited engagement through June 18, 2006.

The Pajama Game, starring Connick Jr. (Sid Sorokin), Kelli O'Hara (Babe Williams) and Michael McKean (Hines), directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall, plays at the American Airlines Theatre (227 West 42nd Street) through June 11th. The Pajama Game features a book by George Abbott and Richard Bissell, based on Bissell's novel 7 1/2 Cents, and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The book has been adapted for this production by Peter Ackerman. The Pajama Game, features the classic songs "Hey There," "Steam Heat" and "Hernando's Hideaway," among others.

Although the regular run of The Pajama Game is sold out, five benefit performances from June 13th through 17th have been added. Ranging from $250-$2,500, they are currently on sale to Visa cardholders through April 15th and will then go on sale to the public.
