Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) has just announced exciting additions to the 2014-2015 theatrical season.
INDIAN INK
In addition to The Real Thing on Broadway in Fall 2014, Roundabout is honored to present the New York premiere of Tom Stoppard's romantic drama Indian Ink, directed by Carey Perloff. The production will begin performances in September 2014 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Centre for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).
Tom Stoppard's relationship with Roundabout Theatre Company includes Broadway productions of The Real Inspector Hound and The Fifteen Minute Hamlet. Next season Roundabout will present a new production Mr. Stoppard's The Real Thing on Broadway starring Ewan McGregor, directed by Sam Gold. This production of Indian Ink will mark the play's New York debut.
Set on two different continents and in two different eras, Indian Ink follows free-spiritEd English poet Flora Crewe on her travels through India in the 1930s, where her intricate relationship with an Indian artist unfurls against the backdrop of a country seeking its independence. Fifty years later, in 1980s England, her younger sister Eleanor tries to preserve the legacy of Flora's controversial career. Little by little, Flora's mysterious past is revealed, as is the surprising story of two people whose connection lives on through art. An evocative portrait of love and loss, Indian Ink movingly explores how the creative spirit can bring us together in the most unexpected ways.
NOISES OFF
In winter 2015, Roundabout will present a new Broadway production of Noises Off, the award-winning comedy by Michael Frayn, directed by Jeremy Herrin. Noises Off will begin previews in January 2015 at 2
the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd Street). This will be a limited engagement. The full cast and creative team will be announced soon.
Full of shocking surprises and gut-busting humor, NOISES OFF is the classic show-within-a-show. The Opening Night performance of the farce Nothing On is just hours away, and as the cast stumbles through their final dress rehearsal, things couldn't be going any worse. With lines being forgotten, love triangles unraveling and sardines flying everywhere, it's complete pandemonium... and we haven't even reached intermission! Can the cast pull their act together on the stage even if they can't behind the scenes?
Noises Off premiered on Broadway in 1983 and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play. The original production ran over 550 performances and was lauded as "the funniest show on Broadway" (NY Times).
