The Talk of the Town, the musical featuring the witty banter from the illustrious Round Table luncheons, will play its final performance on Monday, August 7th (8:30 PM) in the Oak Room of the legendary Algonquin Hotel (59 West 44th Street).
Produced by The Peccadillo Theater Company, the production "tells the story of the ten-year friendship of the wittiest literary characters of the 1920's, including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, George S. Kaufman and Alexander Woollcott," state press notes. The seven-member company is directed by Obie Award-winner Dan Wackerman, with movement by Mercedes Ellington, and features book, original lyrics and music by Ginny Redington and Tom Dawes.
The production was originally produced at the Bank Street Theatre where it had its first preview performance on November 4th, opened November 8th and closed on December 19th, 2004, having played 4 previews and 28 performances. It re-opened in the Oak Room on May 23, 2005 and will have played 116 performances at the time of its closing on August 7th.
