Rosie O'Donnell's kids' charity group continues to do good!

Internationally recognized talk show host and performer Rosie O'Donnell continues to bring together a love of theatre with worthwhile charitable acts with her Rosie's Theater Kids organization and the group is set for a special live event next month set to benefit some local senior citizens.

The official description of the upcoming event is as follows: "When residents of The Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, NJ, sit down for a special performance on Tuesday, November 11, they will be intimately familiar with the story: because it will be their own. Rosie's Theater Kids(RTKids), a New York City arts education organization co-founded by Rosie O'Donnell and Lori Klinger, is giving a special performance for residents that was first unveiled just a month ago at the charity's Annual Fall Gala in New York City. As an exercise in writing and connecting with members of an entirely different generation, RTK Executive Director Lori Klinger worked with her students to visit Lillian Booth residents who had grown up in the 1930's. Using music from The Great American Songbook and adapting details from the residents personal letters, poetry and oral histories, the RTKids students took a virtual journey back to 1936, penning songs about the days of serial radio shows, stickball, Automats, bread lines and the New Deal. In this special Veterans Day performance, the kids will sing and act those stories back to the people who originally told them. Their reaction is likely to be emotional. Students say what they took away from the experience was the sense of community residents felt while they were growing up, finding creative ways - through music, sports and a shared experience - to bring a neighborhood together."
