The past several decades have seen a great awakening in the scholarship and performance of baroque and early music. All over the globe, scholars and musicians are scouring attics, libraries and archives in search of lost works, long forgotten and ignored. What they have turned up is a seemingly endless supply of exciting and beautiful music, at once new and familiar. Consequently, a canon once dominated by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frederick Handel and Antonio Vivaldi has been joined by names such as Dieterich Buxtehude, Heinrich Schu?tz and Johann Rosenmu?ller.
Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity is proud of its role as a steward of early-music in the United States and as such, is excited to give the North American Premier of Johann Rosenmu?ller's Gloria alongside Michael Praetroius's Wie scho?n leuchtet der Morgenstern. In addition to featuring the Grammy-nominated Bach Choir led by music director Donald Meineke, Bach Vespers welcomes Juilliard faculty members Robert Mealy and Cynthia Roberts and famed cornetto virtuoso Kiri Tollaksen in an exciting evening that proves that "old" and "new" are not mutually exclusive!
Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity was the first organization in the Western Hemisphere to present the cantatas and other works of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries within their intended sacred context. Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity are free, open to the public and made possible through a freewill offering.
