Rooftop 760 Presents A MUSICAL JOURNEY FROM JAZZ TO HIP HOP, 8/7

On Tuesday August 7th, 2012 Global Rhythm Group and Urban Lifestyle Media in conjunction with Music Choice will bring a fusion of Hip Hop and Jazz to Rooftop760 (Copacabana's rooftop)! Igmar Thomas is an expert at linking these two genres together. He is not only a composer but an arranger, bandleader and of course a remarkable trumpet player! Thomas will be sharing his talent on stage along with The Cypher featuring the Curtis Brothers. Additional good beats will be provided by BET'S very own "Master of the Mix" DJ Mell Starr.

Igmar Thomas has developed his craft since the age of 12, picking up appendages to his style from playing with legends such as Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Roy Hargrove, Ralph Peterson, and Terri Lynne Carrington. Today Thomas represents the eclectic and vigorous group Igmar & the Cypher, their main focus is Jazz with the influences of hip hop. What sets them apart from other bands is the emphasis on improvisation, a common feature of both genres also known as Freestyle. "We want to carry on the legacy of Louis Armstrong, MiLes Davis, John Coltrane, Fela Kuti, 2pac, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Biggie." Says Igmar. Igmar and The Cypher features only musicians of the highest caliber, his group has attain longevity in this ever-changing musical scene.

The Curtis Brothers are two notable young musicians who are gracing today's Jazz and Latin Jazz scene. Zaccai and Luques Curtis have an outstanding amount of experience undertheir belt.The two have played with Jerry Gonzalez, the FortApache Band, Jimmy Greene, Donald Harrrison, among others. Luques has performed with artists such as Eddie Palmieri, Brian Lynch, Ralph Peterson, Christian Scott, and more. Zaccai composes and arranges for his own quartet, trio, solopiano works, Big-Band, Orchestra, as well as large and small ensembles with strings. He is also the head of his own record label 'Truth Revolution Records', where music from talented independent artists is released. The Curtis Brothers are constantly on the move performing with different bands, artists, orchestra and working on various individual projects.
