Japanese art gallery, New York's Ronin Gallery, presents an exhibition of woodblock prints by Gashu Fukami. The exhibit is now open online, as well as in person at the gallery (425 Madison Ave, 10th floor, NY, NY).
Gashu is a Kyoto artist who has studied in the United States at the Boston Arts Studio as well as in Tokyo and Kyoto where he has had multiple one man exhibitions. Gashu's prints are an intriguing blend of contrasting shapes, colors and forms. Whimsical in concept, strong in design and bold in color they make the familiar look uncanny, and even the ordinary becomes mysterious.
Japanese Art at the Ronin Gallery encompasses a collection of thousands of fine Japanese woodblock prints from the 17th through 21st century. For over thirty years, the gallery on Madison Avenue has specialized in ukiyo-e, Meiji, shin hanga, sosaku hanga and modern Japanese woodblock prints. The gallery also has a collection of fine Japanese paintings, netsuke, baskets, tsuba, lacquer and imari as well as posters, books, gift and decorating ideas.
