Ron Brown and Evidence Present Dance Programs on Harlem Stage, 6/17-20

E-Moves celebrates 25 years of Ronald K. Brown and Evidence, A Dance Company. In the intimacy of the Harlem Stage Gatehouse, the company presents two programs featuring highlights from Brown's repertoire performed with live music featuring Gordon Chambers, Wunmi, and more. These programs will be presented Thursday through Saturday, June 17 - 19, at 7:30pm, and Sunday, June 20 at 3pm.

Program 1 (Friday and Saturday) features 'For You,' 'Better Days,' 'Incidents,' and 'To Harm the Dangerous.' Program 2 (Thursday and Sunday) features 'Two Year Old Gentleman' and 'One Shot.' In honor of Father's Day, Ron will conduct a workshop for boys and their fathers or male mentors/guardians on Saturday, June 19th.

Ronald K. Brown, Brooklyn-born (artistic director, choreographer, dancer), founded the New York-based contemporary dance company Evidence, A Dance Company in 1985. In addition to his work with Evidence, Brown has created work for the African American Dance Ensemble, Philadanco, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and Jeune Ballet d'Afrique Noire. He has collaborated with such artists as composer/designer Omotayo Wunmi Olaiya, the late writer Craig G. Harris, director Ernie McClintock's Jazz Actors Theater, choreographers Patricia Hoffbauer and Rokiya Kone, and composers Robert Een and Oliver Lake. Brown has received numerous awards and fellowships including a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in Choreography, a National Endowment for the Arts Choreographer's Fellowship, and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in choreography. In 2003, Ron received an Audelco (Black Theatre Award) for his choreography for Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats, originally produced by the McCarter Theater and presented off-Broadway in 2003. In fall 2006 Brown received The United States Artists Rose Fellowship.

Founded by Ronald K. Brown in 1985 and based in Brooklyn, New York, Evidence, A Dance Company focuses on the seamless integration of traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken worD. Brown uses movement as a way to reinforce the importance of community in African American culture and to acquaint audiences with the beauty of traditional African forms and rhythms. Evidence now tours to some 25 communities in the United States and abroad. The company has traveled to Cuba, Brazil, England, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Mexico and Senegal to perform, teach master classes and conduct lecture/demonstrations for individuals of all ages. Evidence brings arts education and cultural connections to local communities that have historically lacked these experiences. Annually the company reaches an audience of more than 25,000.
