In the wake of his successful New York engagements, Roger Schmelzer will put the American Songbook to generous and charming use once again in an upbeat, tuneful evening at Germano's Piattini in Baltimore on November 10 at 7:30pm, directed by Marilyn Maye.
Theater Pizzazz called his 2017 New York debut at the Metropolitan Room "delightful" and in her review, Myra Chanin wrote that Roger was "confident, charming and original," with a quick connection to his audience.
Roger's quartet includes some of New York's finest musicians: Jeff Harris on piano, Jack Cavari on guitar, Steve Doyle on bass and Daniel Glass on drums. They support a set list that reflects Roger's outlook on what's good and what works in life. "The Songbook has never been more important or had more to offer than right this moment," he says. "It brings us together and reassures friends and family to chart their own course with confidence, conviction and a spring in their step."
Roger's repertoire includes songs by Jerome Kern, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Johnny Mercer, Marvin Hamlisch and Cole Porter. The show was originally conceived in collaboration with Ms. Maye for Roger's New York debut and has been expanded.
Roger's 2008 CD, "About Now" was described by public radio as "Chock-full of the sorts of clever lyrics and lush arrangements that characterize songs for intimate settings from the last century to today."
In addition to his performing credentials, Roger has led two performing arts organizations in Indianapolis as Board Chair and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Great American Songbook Foundation founded by Michael Feinstein. He raises money with his cabaret shows for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, second only to the U.S. government as a funder of pediatric cancer research.
Roger Schmelzer will appear at Germano's Piattini, 300 South High Street, Baltimore on Saturday, November 10. Doors open at 6pm for dinner and the show will begin at 7:30. Tickets for dining patrons are $25 and can be purchased either by calling 410.752.4515 or online: www.germanospiattini.com
