Vertebrae, a new play by Lila Feinberg, will receive a three-performance staged workshop at New York Theatre Workshop's East 4th St Theatre from April 26-28.
Presented as part of the New Plays Now Festival, Vertebrae is Ms. Feinberg's thesis production as part of her MFA in playwriting at Columbia University. Tony Award Nominee Craig Lucas (Prelude to a Kiss, Light in the Piazza) serves as her official mentor.
Kristjan Thor (Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents) will direct the workshop that will include cast members Kate Roberts (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Katya Campbell (Fish Eye), Evan Enderle (Princes of Waco), Slate Holmgren (CSC's Cherry Orchard), LuCy Walters (Smash), Mark Jude Sullivan (To Be Or Not to Be), and Jordan Barbour (Langston in Harlem).
The play takes place over the weekend of Hurricane IRENE at a medical school reunion in Vermont. Hoping to evade the storm, a group of friends finds themselves in the eye of their very own. When the premature death of one of their classmates is called into question, each is forced to examine the choices they've made, in the operating room and in the bedroom. VERTEBRAE takes a darkly comic look at commitment--in the face of black-outs and white-coats--when one mistake can have a turbulent aftermath.
Vertebrae was partly developed from "Night Float," a commission Ms. Feinberg wrote, originally produced at Playwrights Horizons.
The production is assistant directed by Joe Hendel, dramaturged by Ellen Joffred, produced by Ryan Bogner, and stage managed by Joan Wilkerson; with scenic design by Carolyn Mraz, sound design by Jay Spriggs, lighting design by Nick Hung, and costume design by Annie Simon.
Performances will take place April 26 at 2:30 PM; April 27 at 7:30 PM; and April 28 at 2:30 PM. The East 4th St. Theatre is located at 83 East 4th Street.
