Broadway veteran Rob Evan will step in for Shuler Hensley in Tarzan, from March 28th through May 6th.
Evan will assume Hensley's role as Kerchak while Hensley is performing in the Kander and Ebb musical All About Us at Westport Country Playhouse.
Evan told BroadwayWorld: "I'm thrilled to be in my first Disney show! I have three sons, so they're excited about having bragging rights about their dad playing a gorilla on Broadway. It's definitely serendipitous...I brought my youngest son to see Tarzan a few months before my audition and we both loved it. I really admire Shuler's work and am thrilled to go on for him. We're both University of Georgia graduates...he was a baseball player and I played football. Although he was only a year ahead of me, I only just met him during a costume fitting!"
Evan has been seen on Broadway in Jekyll & Hyde, Little Shop of Horrors, Dance of the Vampires and Les Miserables, as well as Off-Broadway in The Prince and the Pauper and Johnny Guitar. A member of the rock band The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, he also starred in "Jekyll & Hyde: In Concert."
Tarzan opened May 10, 2006 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street). The musical is presented by Disney Theatrical Productions (Thomas Schumacher, Producer).
The production stars Josh Strickland as Tarzan, Jenn Gambatese as Jane, Merle Dandridge as Kala, Chester Gregory II as Terk, Timothy Jerome as Professor Porter and Donnie Keshawarz as Clayton. Dylan Riley Snyder and Alex Rutherford alternate in the role of Young Tarzan.
