The Riverdale YM-YWHA's (5625 Arlington Avenue in the northwest Bronx) teen theater group, Riverdale Rising Stars, begins its ninth season with one of the country's first productions of RENT, the School Edition; opening Saturday, December 6, at 8pm. The show will run Saturdays, December 6, 13, and 20, at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays, December 7, 14, and 21 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, December 11, at 7pm. Matinee Sunday, December 14, at 2 p.m. Note: RENT contains mature themes and is not recommended for young children.
Tickets are $18, and $12 for seniors and students online and in advance of the show or the day of the show at the box office $20, and $14. Tickets can be purchased at www.riverdaley.org or by calling 718-548-8200 ext. 211. Directions to the Y are also on the website. There is ample free parking in the Riverdale Y's private lot.
This edition is performed entirely by students. RENT was originally produced in New York by New York Theatre Workshop and on Broadway by Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCallum, Allan S. Gordon and New York Theatre Workshop. The School Edition is specially adapted and licensed by MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL.
The Riverdale YM-YWHA is a Jewish Community Center which has been serving the Bronx since 1909. Located along the Hudson River in the northwest corner of the Bronx, the Riverdale Y is a multi-generational community service agency providing informal education, physical education, leisure activities, and social services. The Y houses a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor pool, and departments concentrating on Early Childhood Education, After-School, theater, film, dance, music, visual arts, and senior adults.
