Rita Gardner, who originated the role of Luisa in
The Fantasticks and is on the stage of the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in
The Wedding Singer over 45 years later, will appear at Lincoln Center Tower Records on Wednesday, May 10th at 6 PM as part of the "Any Wednesdays" series of free live performances.
Gardner will sign copies of her new solo album "Try to Remember: A Look Back at Off-Broadway," which will be officially released by Harbinger Records on June 13th, after singing a half hour's worth of selections from the CD.
Gardner created the role of winsome Luisa in
The Fantasticks, which opened at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in 1960 and went on to run for over 17,000 performances. She currently plays hip hop-loving senior citizen Rosie in Broadway's
The Wedding Singer, and has also been seen on Broadway in
Morning's at Seven, Ari, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Ben Franklin in Paris, Pal Joey and
A Family Affair (in which she made her Broadway debut).
