The World is Round: Conceived, written and directed by Rachel Dickstein. Original Score by Heather Christian. Based on the original book by Gertrude Stein. Featuring Heather Christian and the Arbornauts, Phillip Taratula, Amber Gray, Special Guest Rinde Eckert and more! The World is Round, steps inside the dreams, desires and drive of Rose, a young girl on a quest to climb a mountain. Through a textured-weave of darkly playful music and acrobatic action, Roses journey gives a window into the joys and challenges of growing up as a woman in the world. Heather Christian's ambitious score takes Stein out of the formality of the opera house and into an alt-rock circus. Christian pulls from the traditional gospel canon, noise rock and good old fashioned feeling good. Influences range from Screaming Jay Hawkins to Prince, Tom Waits to Harry Nilsson. Christian is joined onstage by her band Heather Christian and the Arbornauts along with a diverse ensemble of Amber Gray (Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet) and Philip Taratula (The Lily's Revenge). Best known for its Drama League and Drama Desk nominated production Septimus and Clarissa (2011), Ripe Time is dedicated to ensemble-based performance works infused with rich language, visual power and physical rigor. THE WORLD IS ROUND continues Ripe Time's commitment to creating riveting new adaptations telling stories about power, ambition, faith and desire in women's lives.

Julia Haltigan's songs have an antique, Americana-pop feel. Her lyrics create a collage of imagery that relates heartache, yearning and lust, to motorcycles, fake tattoos and viruses. At times her powerful, sultry voice booms above her six-piece band while at other times she showcases her soft and sexy side melting your heart. Julia's music arouses nostalgia for the classics, evoking the likes of Tom Waits, Nancy Sinatra, and Betty Boop. She puts you out like a Lucky cigarette in an ice cream cone. Her self-released, self-titled second album was released in May 2009. The album is a refreshing addition to the current music scene, combining old-time music influences with Julia's own whimsical style. With weeping guitar lines reminiscent of a Lee Hazelwood track, drum lines like a heel-toe shuffle and a bass like a tugboat, the album blends the blues, old-time country and Americana classics with modern arrangements. Julia Haltigan has shared the stage with artists such as Dixie Fried (featuring Norah Jones), The Defibulators, Steel Train, Freddie Stevenson and The Woes, at various venues such as The Knitting Factory, Rodeo Bar, The Living Room, Maxwell's, Union Pool, South Paw, Union Hall, The National Underground, Pianos, Rockwood Music Hall, Banjo Jim's, The Coney Island Side Show and Spike Hill.

For this very special Joe's Pub performance, master impressionist guitarist Stephane Wrembel hits the stage in a rare trio arrangement. Performing original songs from Wrembel's album Bistro Fada (named after Wrembel's theme song written for the wildly popular Woody Allen film "Midnight in Paris") Wrembel - together with Roy Williams (guitar) and Dave Speranza (bass) - will perform this and other less known Wrembel-scored songs from the "Bistro Fada" collection, many of which have never been performed live. Beyond genre and beyond any singular guitar technique, Stephane's unique musical expression always takes the listener on a spectacular, vivid journey.

Writer/Director Tabitha Holbert presents a staged reading of The Fat Mans Daughter, a new entry into the southern gothic genre. The play revolves around Lily, a young woman with a fragile childlike predilection that has been constructed over a lifetime of deep southern religious traditions. The action finds her struggling to secure her independence from her father Dwight, who battles with an addiction to food and candy despite his life-threatening diabetes. Over the course of the play, Lily discovers that the people that surround her ultimately leave her isolated. Once this is laid bare, she becomes set on a road to ruin brought about by a desperate fight for freedom. Uncompromising and unfiltered, The Fat Man's Daughter explores the pathos surrounding the southern American experience where the pressures of family, religion and culture collide with 21st century morals.

ABOUT JOE'S PUB AT THE PUBLIC Joe's Pub at The Public is one of New York City's most celebrated venues for emerging and established performance artists. Named for Public Theater founder Joe Papp, Joe's Pub debuted in 1998 and plays a vital role in The Public's mission of supporting young artists while providing established artists with an intimate space to perform and develop new work. Joe's Pub presents talent from all over the world as part of The Public's programming downtown at its Astor Place home, hosting approximately 800 shows and serving over 100,000 audience members annually. The diverse roster of programming featured at Joe's Pub includes top performers from Broadway, cabaret, dance, world, singer-songwriter, jazz, country and indie genres as well as New York Voices, its commissioning initiative, today's rising stars and GRAMMY Award winners. Joe's Pub also collaborates with other Public Theater programs to present events such as the Under the Radar Incoming series and the Public Forum lecture and debate series. The New York Times has praised Joe's Pub as at the "nexus" of "a downtown axis of clubs whose performers gleefully fuzz the boundaries between old and new, and between pop, rock, jazz, rhythm-and-blues, swing, country, world music and performance art." Its elegant neoclassical design, intimate atmosphere, and superior acoustics have consistently landed the venue on annual Best of New York lists. A top-to-bottom renovation was completed in 2011, leading to improved sightlines, expanded seating capacity and a new menu from acclaimed Chef Andrew Carmellini. http://www.joespub.com/; @joespub
