Richard Vetere Celebrates His Birthday With A Life in the Theater

Playwright Richard Vetere will celebrate his 60th birthday with a very special event, called A Life in the Theater, of readings from twelve of his plays at the Cherry Lane Theater on Sunday, January 15th at 7pm, which will feature many special guests & speakers including playwright Israel Horovitz.

Highlights from the event will include actor/artist Federico Castelluccio reading a scene from Vetere’s play Caravaggio, along with Tony Drazan (who directed the film version of Hurly Burly with Sean Penn & Kevin Spacey) and actress Yvonne Maria Schaefer, and The Sopranos’ Vincent Pastore doing a scene from The Kids Menu, along with actress Mickey Sumner.

Another highlight will be a scene from The Third Miracle, which is based on Richard Vetere’s Simon & Schuster published novel and was just adapted as a play, with Sean Patrick Reilly and Mickey Sumner. Vetere also co-wrote the screenplay adaptation, produced by Francis Ford Coppola starring Ed Harris.

Other scene readings include actor Michael Cullen doing One Shot, One Kill, in the role he created at Primary Stages, along with actor Frank Solorzano, Liza Vann and Sean Patrick Reilly doing a scene from Machiavelli, which has not been seen in NYC since its 2007 production at the Archlight Theater Off-Broadway, Gangster Apparel with Lou Martini Jr. and Sean Patrick Reilly, Painting X's on the Moon with Paul Borghese and Ron Piretti and Three Sisters from Queens with Jill Butterfield, Lucia Grillo and Josie Vitetta.
