A source exclusively confirms to BroadwayWorld that a new bio-musical based on the life and career of iconic stage and screen star Richard Burton is set to hit the West End in 2015.
Tracing his Welsh upbringing to his early career stage superstardom as well as his internationally celebrated and vividly volatile relationship with Elizabeth Taylor, the new musical has all the makings of a highly entertaining and historically rich evening in the theatre, to say the least.
HAMLET to WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? to CAMELOT to EQUUS, NIGHT OF THE IGUANA, PRIVATE LIVES, BOOM! and more, this story has more drama than multiple other musicals combined - and then some!
The new musical features a score by Daniel and Laura Curtis, who recently co-penned Ramin Karimloo's charity single "Why Am I Falling" as well as "A Miner's Song", which featured over 300 participants, including an audio recording of Richard Burton himself, incidentally.
Daniel Curtis is quoted as saying about the project 'Richard Burton has always fascinated me and his relationship with Elizabeth Taylor has to be one of the most famous romances of all time. We want to take the audience on a journey from his humble beginnings in Pontrhydyfen to becoming one of the biggest stars in the World."
The cast and the full creative team will be announced soon.
So, what do you think of the prospect of turning the life of one of the 20th century's most respected thespians into a new musical for the London stage?
