The 2013 Tony Awards are just four days away and still more names are being added to the list of those who will be honored this year. Michael Riedel writes in today's New York Post that Mayor Bloomberg will accept a special honor on Sunday night.
He writes, "I hear City Hall made the case to the Broadway League and the American Theater Wing, the two organizations that run the Tonys, that, under Mayor Mike, tourism has hit record levels - 52 million visitors this past year alone, many of them taking in a Broadway show."
An insider told Riedel that the Mayor "didn't get enough votes to get a special Tony Award. But we had to do something. We can't just reject the mayor. So we gave him a Tony honor instead."
