Review: DISNEY MUSIC & FIREWORKS at Maishima Sports Island

Disney Music & Fireworks: The first-ever entertainment in Japan that synchronizes Disney's classic songs with fireworks. Celebrating Disney's 100th anniversary this year, this dynamic fireworks festival featuring Disney's music is being held nationwide. It has already taken place in Hiroshima, Yamanashi, Ibaraki, Yamaguchi, and Osaka, with upcoming for November 18 in Miyazaki and December 9 in Okinawa.

The familiar scene of fireworks bursting behind Cinderella Castle, often seen in Disney movie openings, was recreated in the sky. Those fireworks that were cut off by the screen danced across the night sky of Osaka. The semi-circular shooting stars were also brilliantly reproduced, eliciting tears and cheers from the audience. The show opened energetically with the song "Try Everything" from "Zootopia," with a variety of colorful fireworks that seemed to represent the diversity of the film.

In "Frozen 2," "Into the Unknown" was presented with blue lighting and fireworks resembling fountains drawing lines, creating a scene of Elsa manipulating the snow. "Go the Distance" was expressed by numerous oversized golden fireworks, expressing the godlike power and strength of Hercules. "Pirates of the Caribbean" featured fiery red prominent lighting and fireworks with explosions. It amazingly presented the song "He's a Pirate” as if plunging into the midst of a battle among pirates with firing cannons, creating an immersive experience.

Smiley face and heart-shaped fireworks delighted the children in "You've Got a Friend in Me" from "Toy Story 4." In "Friend Like Me" ("Aladdin"), fireworks that lit up five times per one explosion with slightly staggered timing were appeared, just like Genie's magic. The lanterns from "Tangled" sparkled with small lights, creating a romantic atmosphere synchronized with "I See the Light." The Tokyo Disney Resorts(R) 40th anniversary segment was filled with familiar park music, including the "Electrical Parade Dreamlights" theme, making you feel like you're at Disneyland.

In "Star Wars", lasers flitted overhead, instantly enveloping the venue in a sci-fi atmosphere. On the contrary, Mickey's shaped fireworks were synchronized with the "Mickey Mouse March," fish-shaped fireworks were seen in "Under the Sea" (“The Little Mermaid,”) and ring-shaped fireworks like Hawaiian leis were observed in "Aloha E Komo Mai" (“Lilo & Stitch: The Series,”) showcasing the high level of technology. The climax featured an abundance of pure white fireworks that overwhelmed the field of vision, set off in quick succession during the grand chorus of "Let It Go" from "Frozen."

A spectacular and powerful fireworks show accompanied Disney's famous songs. The song selection, including tracks from "The Avengers" and "Tarzan," which delighted even the hardcore fans, created a magical moment for both adults and children. The variety of fireworks included scenes like a star mine, ensuring a visually captivating experience. Tender numbers such as "Beauty and the Beast" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from "The Lion King" were also perfectly complemented by the fireworks. This show left the audience wanting to watch for hours. Hopefully, it will become an annual tradition.
