Religion Takes the Stage in Broadway Hopeful DAY SIX; Readings Set for St. Luke's, 5/19

Church and State rarely take the stage together, but Broadway Bound Productions is doing just that with their reading of Day Six. Producers, Jeff Britton and Susan Gilman, are now bringing renowned playwright, Martin Halpern's drama to life on its way to Broadway.

The play, set in 1986 in the East Village apartment of David Porter, dramatizes an encounter between Porter, a lapsed Catholic who now earns his living as a ghost writer of sermons for clergymen of various denominations, and Eleanor Manning, a professional typist and recent convert to Catholicism, who has transcribed one of his taped sermons, and brings the typescript to his apartment in order to meet the man behind a voice which moved her deeply. In the course of their sometimes humorous, sometimes rancorous encounter, each learns a great deal about the other, building to a climax in which there is a real possibility of love between two very lonely and very needy people.

Readings of Day Six will be presented May 19, 2015 at 5pm and 8pm at St. Luke's Theatre, 308 West 46th Street New York. In an unusual move, the reading is open to the public.

Day Six is slated to open on Broadway for the 2016 season.
