East/Northeast

1. Washington, DC: Editor Andrew White reviews Next Stage's EURYDICE. He says, "Kenny Neal has created some truly eerie effects, both with the pre-show and with the mid-show effects that heighten our sense of the land of the dead being a very different place indeed. And KrisTina Martin decks out the cast in a wide variety of styles, from the preppy chic of the Married Couple to the discreet tweed of the Father to the fantastical rags for her Stones and Zavistovich's suits, all of which should be off-the-rack for Halloween revelers." 2. Connecticut: Editor Joseph Harrison reviews RELATIVITY at TheaterWorks. He says, "As Albert Einstein, Mr. Dreyfuss is transcendent. Upon entering the stage, the audience saw the esteemed and popular actor, but by the end of the show, I felt I was seeing Einstein himself, and that was a thrill. Dreyfuss' accent, mannerisms, and his signature wild white hair made for an extremely convincing portrayal. Ms. Scott-Reed's performance as Margaret Harding, the mysterious visitor, was equal parts raw emotion and determination. And as Helen Dukas, Ms. Wilner gives the audience a stern German woman with a hidden soft-spot for the man she "makes life easier for, so he can change the world." Read more here.

3. Boston, MA: Editor Nancy Grossman reviews Huntington Theatre Company's TIGER STYLE! She says, "Playwright Mike Lew explores this phenomenon in his new comedy TIGER STYLE! at the Huntington Theatre Company. Extended by popular demand, the laughs come fast and furiously as siblings Albert (Jon Norman Schneider) and Jennifer Chen (Ruibo Qian) struggle to figure out who they can blame for their recent failures as adults. Both were stellar students and are Harvard graduates, but he gets passed over for promotion by his manager at the software company in favor of a lazy hail-fellow-well-met, and she gets dumped by her loser boyfriend (Bryan T. Donovan) who is bored by her physician's perfectionism and the absence of fun in their relationship." Read more here.

4. Philadelphia, PA: Editor Kelli Curtain reviews MAURITIUS at Act II Playhouse. She says, "This intense show is about what one character calls "the crown jewel of philately," two rare stamps from the island of Mauritius that are worth many millions of dollars if sold. The play tells an action packed tale that will have audiences engaged throughout the show. Playwright Theresa Rebeck has created a suspenseful evening of entertainment that is full of twists and turns. This show, under the direction of David Bradley, is incredibly well done, and it is an intense story about what happens when a valuable stamp collection is at the center of a conflict between two family members." 5. Minneapolis, MN: Editor Jill Schafer reviews THE BAKER'S WIFE at Artistry. She says, "I'm grateful that Artistry's resident Music Director Anita Ruth was finally able to do her "dream show," and what a dream it is! The absolutely lovely score, the touching story about love and forgiveness, and the cast, led by everyone's favorite Bradley Greenwald and soon-to-be everyone's favorite Jill Iverson, make this a dream show indeed. Head to Bloomington before November 12 and take a chance on an unfamiliar musical, you just might fall in love." Read more here.

6. Miami, FL: Editor Roger Martin reviews AFTER at Zoetic Stage. He says, "Stuart Meltzer has not only directed well, he's cast AFTER brilliantly. McKeever's piece could easily slide into soap opera were it not for the depth of his writing and the skills of the performers.... The presentation of AFTER has much to do with its success. The sophisticated, two tiered set in black and grays has the unusual effect of seemingly enlarging the entire Studio Theatre and the subtleties of the scene changes from Before, During and After add another dimension to the overall production." 7. Los Angeles, CA: New Editor George Brietigam reviews HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH at The Hollywood Pantages Theatre. He says, "All the designers who worked on HEDWIG need to be commended profoundly. The stunning costumes and wigs by AriAnne Phillips and Mike Potter were well worthy of Hedwig's larger than life, but also very vulnerable, character. Benjamin Pearcy and John Bair's projections and animations reminded me of dreams I've never had, but want to. Kevin Adams is a master of theatrical lighting, blending it seamlessly into the action on stage." Read more here.

8. Tucson, AZ: Editor Maria Rita Meli reviews AN ACT OF GOD at Arizona Theatre Company. She says, "The comedic sense - unique to each character - of all three makes for an evening of theatre where one cannot help but laugh, even when feeling a bit sacrilegious doing so, but that is the brilliance of playwright David Javerbaum. He takes religion and the whole idea of God and spins it on its head; Michael asks the questions that we've all been asking: why do bad things happen to good people? Why is there suffering in the world? Why do children suffer from illness? If God is all powerful, why can't God rid the world of pain? Why do we even have to die?" Read more here.

9. Israel: Editor Ronit Suzan reviews JOSEPH AND THE TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at the Beit Zvi School of the Performing Arts. She says, "The cast, all third year students at the school, is led by GAl Goldstein who charmingly plays Joseph with a beautiful silvery voice and although he doesn't always connect to the lyrics while he's singing, something which is sadly true to most of the leading actors in this cast, he sure is a wonderful casting for this colorful role. Joining him is Danielle Eve who plays the Narrator (alternately played by Amit Zittoun and Elinor David) and tells the story devotedly and with a blissful voice, even though it would have been much better if she didn't occasionally add an irrelevant riff or two throughout the show." 10. Orlando Editor Matt Tamanini reviews THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. He says, "Played by recent Juilliard graduate Adam Langdon, Christopher is a challenging, but captivating 15-year-old. He is difficult and frustrating, but also preternaturally observant. Langdon's take on this complex boy is astounding, and at times mesmerizing, and though it is in a way unusual from nearly anything else you've seen on stage before, the play is a familiar journey of learning and self-discovery."
