Broadway legends -- and real-life husband and wife -- Danny Burstein (My Fair Lady, Moulin Rouge) and Rebecca Luker (The Sound of Music, Music Man) have joined forces to tell a playful tale about the pitfalls of greed.
"A Bird in the Hand" is the newest episode from Circle Round: the acclaimed children's podcast from WBUR, Boston's NPR news station.
Circle Round adapts classic folktales into radio plays for listeners aged 3-103, all across the world. Replete with original music and sound design, each episode features notable performers from the stage and screen, including: Billy Porter, Raul Esparza, Keith David, Jason Alexander, Kathryn Hahn, Taran Killam, Jon Cryer, Richard Kind, Sela Ward, James Naughton, Iain Armitage, Miriam Shor, Kathleen Chalfant, Ed Asner, Max Casella and Derek Klena. Circle Round is hosted and written by public-radio veteran Rebecca Sheir; Sheir's husband, composer Eric Shimelonis, creates all the original music and sound design.
"A Bird in the Hand" is a folktale with roots across Europe and Asia. When a covetous prince captures a talking bird, the clever creature teaches the selfish man an invaluable lesson about kindness and contentment.
