Legendary Downtown trendsetter Raven O, the oh-so-colorful avatar of the downtown performance art scene, raises our throbbing spirits on New Year's Eve in a shape-shifting, champagne-soaked cabaret celebration at Pangea! With the help of the acclaimed bassist Ben Allison, Raven O stirs up his witch's brew of sultry song and restless commentary, not once but twice, in back-to-back shows at 8pm and 10:30pm. Both shows are generously priced: $125 for the early show and $165 for the late show. In both cases, tickets include a delicious 3-course dinner, and a half-bottle of Cava per person. A separate á la carte menu will be served in the front dining room, independent of the performance, from 5:00 pm until midnight. Join us in either room for our Midnight Countdown! Pangea's front room bar will be open until at least 2:00 am.
Raven O - hailed by The New York Times as "... a modern day Joel Grey ..." - is known as a brilliant live performer, the entertainer the stars come to see. In 2010, Raven used his powerful crooning skills in his critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show, Raven O, One Night With You. He also had a hugely successful six-year run as "The Ringleader of Debauchery" for The Box nightclubs in New York and London. Recently, he packed NYC venues Joe's Pub, The Duplex and The Metropolitan Room for his trademark live jazz performances. For tonight's special New Year's Eve shows, Raven will give a nod to NYC evenings past, performing classic pop and American Songbook standards that run the range from "Fly Me to the Moon" to "Ticket to Ride".
In a career that spans nearly 30 years, bassist/composer Ben Allison has developed his own instantly identifiable sound, solidifying an international reputation as one of the leading voices of his generation. Called "... one of today's best young jazz musicians" by The Boston Globe and a "visionary composer, adventurous improviser, and strong organizational force on the New York City jazz scene" by JazzTimes, seven of Allison's albums have reached #1 on the CMJ national jazz radio charts.
