The official ribbon cutting and opening of 60 new sports fields on Randall's Island Park with Yankees star players, Red Bulls soccer players and Tennis Hall of Famer, John McEnroe, on Wednesday, May 19th. The event will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Randall's Island Park, Sunken Meadow Fields, # 27.

Randall's Island Sports Foundation (RISF) announces the completion of a 3-year-long, more than $130 million project, bringing over 60 state-of-the-art athletic fields to Randall's Island Park. The new fields will accommodate baseball, soccer, softball, lacrosse, field hockey, rugby and cricket. This major milestone is the largest city-funded initiative, in both scale and investment, dedicated toward new sports fields in New York City in over a century. The new sports fields being unveiled on Randall's Island, along with Icahn Stadium, and with the SPORTIME tennis center where the John McEnroe Tennis Academy will begin this September, will meet the enormous demand for athletic facilities in New York and give tens of thousands of New York kids the chance to be active and to excel.

Those who are scheduled to attend are New York Yankees stars Mariano Rivera and Robinson Cano; New York Red Bulls soccer players John Wolyniec, Carlos Mendes, and Kevin Goldthwaite; tennis legend and New Yorker, John McEnroe; Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott; Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe; Chairman of the Randall's Island Sports Foundation Rich Davis; and over 100 children from youth sports leagues who will benefit from the new fields this spring.
