Comedian Rajiv Satyal will bring his unique brand of holiday cheer to The Funny Bone Comedy Club in Newport, Kentucky, when he hosts the "1st Annual Cincinnati Comedians Homecoming Show" on Wednesday, December 26.
"I have even written a poem about it," he said. "'Twas the night after Christmas, and all through the house, people were sick and tired of their relatives and needed to get OUT.'"
Satyal, who is based in Los Angeles, grew up across the Ohio River from Newport, in Cincinnati. He will be joined onstage by other comedians who are also from the area and will be home for the holidays: Andre Hyland, Jeff Jena, Drew Tarvin, Geoff Tate, Erin Schauer, Ray Price, Saleem, Michael Flannery, Steve Caminiti and more. Many of the comedians have toured the world and appeared on network TV shows.
"I am doing something a bit different this time," Satyal said. "The show will be a combination of stand-up comedy and sit-down interviews, sort of like a late-night talk show. There will be elements of improv. I have no idea what will happen, but it's guaranteed to be more fun than sitting around the house, cleaning up Christmas leftovers and taking down the tree."
No stranger to interviews, Satyal hosts the weekly "Funny Indian Show Podcast," in which he chats with other entertainers. The podcast can be downloaded from his website, www.FunnyIndian.com.
A former Procter & Gamble marketing executive, Satyal quit his corporate job in 2006 to become a full-time stand-up comedian. He has opened many times for Kevin Nealon, Tim Allen and other well-known comedians. In January 2012, the U.S. State Department sent Satyal and two of his comedy partners on a 7-city goodwill tour of India. The so-called "Make Chai Not War" show attracted international attention, and was covered by The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, NPR's All Things Considered and other major news media.
