RAHWAY, NEW JERSEY - An upcoming art exhibit in Rahway will prove the adage that a true artist "paints not what they see, but what they feel."
Limited Sight / Unlimited Vision showcases the work of six New Jersey artists who are blind or have low vision: Tamilah Alexander, Aaron Elmowitz, Jon Gabry, Alicia Liptscher, Narcissa Lopez and Diane Robinson.
The exhibit will be displayed today, June 5, through June 25, 2015 in the lobby of RSI Bank, 1500 Irving Street in the heart of Rahway Arts District, with an opening reception Friday, June 5 from 4-7 p.m.
Exhibit and reception are admission-free and open to the public; the exhibit can be viewed during regular bank hours, Monday through Saturday. For daily exhibit hours, see www.rsibanking.com or call (732) 388-1800.
Limited Sight / Unlimited Vision is presented by Union County Performing Arts Center & LuceGroup with funding from William G. & Helen C. Hoffman Foundation, Caleb C. Pruden Trust and RSI Bank.
"Limited Sight / Unlimited Vision presents an exceptional collation of art from a very unique creative perspective," says Lawrence E. McCullough, executive director of Union County Performing Arts Center. "As Henry Ward Beecher said, 'Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.'"
* The exhibit will also premiere a 40-minute video produced by award-winning filmmaker Jim Lucethat highlights each artist and explores how the visually impaired engage in the creative process and connect to the world.
* On Saturday, June 6 from 11:00 a.m.-noon, artist/art instructor Sandra Frank will offer a free workshop titled Helping the Visually Impaired Enjoy the Creative Process: An Art Instruction Workshop for Parents, Teachers and Caregivers. The workshop takes place at Hamilton Stage, 360 Hamilton Street, Rahway, and outlines simple, fun techniques and materials that can be used by those who care for or teach individuals who are blind or have limited vision.
