Broadway star Rachel York will be featured on the CBS crime drama, "Close to Home," tonight (Friday, January 12) at 9 p.m. York appears as Dr. Jennifer Taylor in an episode titled "Getting In."
York also opens in the national tour of Camelot tonight at the La Mirada Theatre in California, starring as Guenevere opposite the Arthur of Michael York.
According to press notes on "Close to Home," tonight's episode is "about the prosecution of a malpractice case involving an anesthesiologist who is accused of murder after her patient dies on the operating table during a routine surgery. At first, the assistant district attorney sees the case as malpractice but later discovers a connection between the doctor and patient that leads the prosecutor to conclude there was a motive," press notes state.
York, an award winning stage and screen actress, is best known for her critically acclaimed Broadway performances in City of Angels, Les Misérables, Victor/Victoria (Drama Desk Award) with Dame Julie Andrews, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Kiss Me, Kate (Helen Hayes nomination), Sly Fox with Richard Dreyfuss, and most recently Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, co-starring Jonathan Pryce. Additionally, York has starred in Putting It Together (Drama Desk Nomination), Dessa Rose at the Lincoln Center Theater (Drama Desk Nomination), Anything Goes (Ovation Nomination), Ragtime, Evita, Summer of '42, Summer and Smoke, and Crucifer of Blood with Billy Crudup.
Her film credits include One Fine Day, Billy Bathgate, Killer Instinct, Second Honeymoon, and Au Pair II. She also played Lucille Ball in the CBS made for television movie, "Lucy." Her performances in Kiss Me, Kate (filmed for PBS's Great Performances series) and Victor/Victoria are available on video/DVD. York has also appeared on several popular TV series including "Frasier," "Reba," 'Numb3rs," "Arli$$," "Spin City," "The Naked Truth" and "Diagnosis Murder." In addition, she is the voice of Bitty in "Higglytown Heroes" and Circe on "The Justice League."
York's debut solo CD, "Let's Fall in Love," was released in January 2005.
