Bay Street Theatre is pleased to announce that David Mamet's play, ROMANCE, is now in rehearsal. It is the third and final play of the 2010 Mainstage Season and will run from August 10 - September 5. This shockingly funny courtroom comedy is directed by Lisa Peterson. The cast includes Chris Bauer, Darrell Hammond and Richard Kind. Tickets are still available by calling the box office at 631-725-9500 or online at baystreet.org.

ROMANCE is a roller coaster ride in which no one is left unscathed. Chiropractors, Lawyers, Christians, Jews, Gays, Minorities, Shakespeare and even World Peace are skewered as only Mamet can. "You may want to leave your ‘politically correct' hat at home for this play," says Murphy Davis, Artistic Director at Bay Street Theatre. According to Davis, both he and Sybil Christopher, also an Artistic Director at Bay Street, chose this play for the combination of its razor sharp wit and intelligence. "This outrageous comedy is for all those who revel in taking an unflinching look at human hypocrisy and folly," says Davis. "Come to this play with an open mind and to be ready to laugh out loud!"

Both Davis and Christopher said they are thrilled with the incredible cast for this show. The cast includes Chris Bauer, the prosecutor in ROMANCE, currently plays Andy Bellefleur on the television show "True Blood." On Broadway he was in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. He was also in the television show "The Wire." Darrell Hammond, the bailiff in ROMANCE, from "Saturday Night Live" has been applauded by television critics and viewers for his amazing impressions. He also has appeared in the F/X series, "Damages," and "Law & Order." Hammond has also performed his stand up routing at the Comedy Club at Bay Street Theatre. Richard Kind plays the judge in ROMANCE. He was seen at Bay Street Theatre in THE LADY IN QUESTION. He is known for his roles on television including "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Spin City." On Broadway, his credits included THE PRODUCERS, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST'S and BOUNCE! Film credits include A Serious Man. Matt McGrath returns to Bay Street. His last two performances were in BEYOND THERAPY and THE LADY IN QUESTION. His Broadway credits include CABARET and A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. Off Broadway credits include HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. Reg Rogers, the defense attorney in ROMANCE, was most recently seen on Broadway in THE ROYAL FAMILY. Other credits include THE PAIN AND THE ITCH and THE DAZZLE. Joey Slotnick is from television's "Nip/Tuck" and Off Broadway in ALMOST AN EVENING and OFFICES. Joe Pallister has had recurring roles on "One Life To Live," "Guiding Light," and "Another World." For Hampton Theatre Company, he performed in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, TRUE WEST and 12 ANGRY MEN.

Lisa Peterson directs this amazing cast. She has directed world premieres by Donald Margulies, Tony Kushner, Beth Henley and more including theatres such as the New York Theater Workshop, The Public, The Vineyard, MCC, MTC, Primary Stages, Guthrie and more. She was Associate Director at La Jolla Playhouse for three years and Resident Director of Mark Taper Forum for 10 years. Lisa has developed new work at Sundance Theater Lab, O'Neill Playwrights Festival, Playwrights Center, New Dramatists, and the Royal Court. She is a graduate of Yale College.

David Mamet wrote and recently directed RACE on Broadway. The most recognized element of Mamet's style is his sparse, clipped dialogue. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, which also later won a Tony Award for best revival of a play. His other plays include SPEED THE PLOW and OLEANNA. His screenwriting includes The Postman Always Rings Twice, The Verdict, The Untouchables, Glengarry Glen Ross and Wag The Dog, for which he earned an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for best screenplay.

The production team includes Alexander Dodge (set designer), Jeff Croiter (lighting designer), David C. Woolard (costume designer), Jill BC Du Boff (sound designer), Kathy Fabian (prop designer), Rick Sordelet (fight director), Chris Clark (production stage manager) and Cindy Tolan (casting director).

Tickets are available at the Box Office at 631-725-9500 or online at baystreet.org. A two for 1 ticket offer is available for previews on August 10 -13 and for all matinees based on availability. The theatre is located on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor, NY on the corner of Bay and Main Streets.
