Veteran vocalist Roberta Donnay, whose new album "My Heart Belongs to Satchmo-a collection of tunes from the Louis Armstrong songbook of the 1920's-1930's-is drawing rave reviews.
A versatile performer with a wide range of platforms, Donnay has written, produced and performed songs that have appeared on television ("One Life to Live," "All My Children," "The Young & The Restless" and "Nash Bridges," among others), documentaries ("Pie Lady of Pie Town," and "Reservoirs of Strength"), and served as music supervisor ("Journey Of The Universe").
"My Heart Belongs to Satchmo" is Donnay's ninth CD (now signed to Blujazz), a tribute to Louis Armstrong with her group, the Prohibition Mob Band. Her interest in roots music was inspired from the radio, performing with Dick Oxtot's Golden Age Jazz Band, recording with legendary jazz producer Orrin Keepnews, researching lost and obscure material from the Jazz Age, and touring 10 ½ years as singer/percussionist with Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks.
As a songwriter and performer, Donnay has won awards including ASCAP Composer Awards, Top Solo Indie Artist in Performing Songwriter Magazine, one of the Best Albums in DownBeat Magazine, and an International Film Music Award.
As a singer and performer, Donnay has opened for, or performed with, Joey Alexander, George Benson, Bob Dorough, David Grisman, Bela Fleck, John Hammond, Dan Hicks, Dr. John, Christian McBride, Maria Muldaur, Lewis Nash, Joe Sample, David Sanborn, Leon Russell, Bonnie Raitt, Rickie Lee Jones, Lee Ritenour, Booker T. Jones, Tuck & Patti and many more.
