After setting the date for its Broadway opening, "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" may now have added another female lead to the cast, according to Superhero Hype.
According to the article, actress and singer America Olivo posted a message on her Facebook page stating she was "In training for Spider-Man" as well as sharing a link on her Twitter account pertaining to the show's opening night. Apparently, when told by another Facebook user that she would make an excellent Black Cat, Olivo wrote "Black Cat? Ohh, I like... Humph... I don't know the Black Cat character. Who is she?"If the rumors are true and Olivo is portraying one of the leading roles, it's likely that she may be the new female villain introduced in the show. Some of the earliest reports about the show listed the character's name as "Swiss Miss," while more recent stories have called her Arachne. The character has been described as a "femme fatal" that stalks and tempts Spider-Man.
Olivo has appeared on TV in "How I Met Your Mother," "House," "General Hospital" and "Jake In Progress." She has starred in feature films including "Neighbor," "Bitch Slap" and the remake of "Friday the 13th." Olivo was also the lead singer for the band Soluna and has appeared in musicals in the past including a Los Angeles production of "Hotel C'est L'Amour."
"Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" stars Reeve Carney as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson and Patrick Page as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. U2's Bono and The Edge wrote the music and lyrics with director Julie Taymor.
The musical will open December 21, with previews starting on November 14.
