Broadway veterans, R.Evolución Latina's students from adult and children's program and volunteers joined hands to support the organization and its yearly programming at Harlem School of the Arts. The Dance-A-Thon is not only a fundraiser but also an annual reflection of the organization's mission.
This year the event had a special opening number choreographed by Matthew Steffens, that included Broadway performers Joomin Hwang (The Prom), Roddy Kennedy (Hamilton) Gabriella Sorrentino (Hamilton), Gabriela Garcia (Half Time) and Brett Sturgis (On Your Feet). Broadway Veteran Olga Merediz joined the event to keep the dance floor moving and support the organization. Other special events that kept the celebration going included a lip sync contest and special performances by Daniel Fetecua and his company Pajarillo Pinta'o. The event was hosted by Luis Salgado and Hudson Flynn.
Thanks to the support of over 30 fundraisers, more than 350 donors and 40 volunteers, R.Evolución Latina surpassed their goal raising $76,304 dollars. Some of the top fundraisers were director/choreographer Sergio Trujillo raising $10,000, Luis Salgado and Denisse Ambert raising $20,000 each. R.Evolución Latina's kids raised funds to support the programs they love. Top fundraiser under our kids division was Luna García 13 years old and her mother Marina Gutierrez. Luna has been part of R.Evolución Latina's camp since she was 7 years old and she has been fundraising since the event was created. The RL community danced nonstop for 5 hours as the RL team worked towards getting the last donations to hit the goal.
Another successful event created by people who are committed to help communities in need, and create social change through the power of the arts.
R.Evolución Latina (RL) is an organization that empowers the artistic community, and inspires growth within the Latino community through educational support programs, productions and partnerships. With the slogan "Dare to Go Beyond", the organization is modeled on what it calls "The Circle Effect", a platform that seeks to create a multilevel, multicultural, and multigenerational community where leaders are nurtured and supported, and they in turn make a difference and support others in their neighborhood.
RL's most celebrated programs include the Beyond Workshop Series, an adult educational scholarship for professional and emerging artists, and the D2GB School Arts Program, which brings teaching artists to New York City schools year-round. The program integrates theater, dance, and music into the classroom to enhance achievement in math, science, literacy, languages, problem-solving, and critical thinking, among other areas.
