On Wednesday, October 7, R.Evolución Latina and Sundance Productions hosted more than 100 New York City youth at the matinee performance of the tango extravaganza Tanguera at City Center.

The endeavor, part of R.Evolución Latina's ongoing "Kids Beyond Broadway" intiative, served inner-city youth from the Mercy Center in the Bronx, St. Michael's Academy and more, and provided them with an opportunity to experience the performance absolutely free of charge.

"The freshman class at St. Michael Academy were absolutely amazed by the performance," said Chris Nee of St. Michaels Academy. "In the lesson following the performance, the students were able to relate the immigration of Argentina to their own lives and communities. In a multicultural school like ours, it is important for us to realize that we have all come from different places, have blended into one community and are more alike than different. We remain eternally grateful to R.Evolución Latina for providing this fantastic experience to 60 of our students. Muchas Gracias!"

"Each of our youth participants loved the show and became reinvigorated about dance, life and their future," said Margo L. Golos, Major Gifts Coordinator for The Mercy Center. "The music and the absolutely spectacular choreography was a delight to experience. One of our ESL (English as a Second Language) students left and said she wanted to bring her husband back to watch. Another is ready to sign up for dance lessons! This inspired each of us so differently and positively."

Tanguera plays at New York's City Center now through October 18.

Founded in 2007, R.Evolución Latina is New York City's non-for-profit collective of artists and activists committed to inspiring growth within the Latino Community.

The organization's ongoing youth programs are designed to provide instruction in and exposure to the arts while encouraging personal growth.
